[UPDATE – 3/1]
I guess all of the leaked images and information were too much for Ubisoft to ignore. Since this original post yesterday, the publisher has come forward and released the official box art for Assassin’s Creed III. Check it out:
Not to be outdone, Game Informer went ahead and revealed that their April edition will be jam-packed with juicy AE 3 information. And yes, if you haven’t picked up on it yet, the game will be set during the American Revolution. See this link for even more glorious concept art. Like what you see? Give Assassin’s Creed a pre-order and wait patiently for October 30, 2012.
A picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s all we have to go on here.
Kotaku recently received an email from an alleged Best Buy employee claiming the above image to be the main character in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed III. The rumor mill has been churning out possible ties to the American Revolution with the third game and, if true, this picture positively confirms the notion.
Whether you love or hate the series, let’s face it: Assassin’s Creed needs to do something different. The franchise has fallen into the Call of Duty style of intermittently releasing proper franchise titles every other year with spin-off editions in between. More recent installments have included deeper RPG elements and even a slight take on tower defense mechanics, but the gameplay in general is still the same old thing in the same old place. Native Americans and the American Revolution would not only break new ground for Assassin’s Creed, but also the gaming industry as a whole. Think about it, how many triple-A titles can you name that relate to either?
Yeah, thought so.
Not surprisingly, Ubisoft has not commented on the lovely piece of artwork as of yet. But those on the edge of their seats need not wait too long, as the company is set to drop a major Assassin’s Creed announcement next Monday. Stay tuned.
