Here is an announcement I’ve been waiting to hear. SEGA just announced that Company of Heroes 2 will have an early access beta phase. which will be happening next Tuesday on April 2! It isn’t the first, so we all should be safe from a Fools’ Day. Here are some of the details as announced on the SEGA blog. Players will have a chance to play test the competitive multiplayer and skirmish gameplay, giving players access to six maps along with 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 gameplay action. You can even gain up to the first 40 levels in the game! For me, that seems fair enough as it is a beta. Now for the part where you may be asking, who gets to participate? The first phase of the closed beta will be open to pre-order customers only until the second phase of the beta in the next few weeks.
You will get the chance to participate in the beta via Steam which will also support and utilize Steamworks for matchmaking and friends lists. Greg Wilson has already confirmed that there has been many changes since the closed alpha testing in December so those of you that participated should have a blast with the beta as well.
In the alpha, you had the chance to play on four of the maps. Now with the beta, you have access to the same four plus two brand new maps which allow you to battle for control of the Oka River or have an all-out close quarters battle outside of Moscow.
